The Mayeux Genealogy Project

Documenting the History of the Mayeux Family in America

On June 10, 1720, Pierre Mayeux embarked on the Profond, commanded by M. du Gerneur bound for Louisiana from La Rochelle, France. He was on the passenger list as a worker for the Law Concession, a company owned by John Law and granted a 25-year monopoly by the French Government to do business in the West Indies and North America. On that same ship was his future wife, Marie Sellier. Together, they started one of the first families of Louisiana--one that is still very prominent today.

Albea T. Mayeux
This project is my personal quest to document his descendants. I currently have over 3,000 Mayeuxs and Mayeauxs in my database, but am missing many branches and descendants. Unfortunately, much of the history of this family is being lost as generations pass on without recording the details for future generations. Information gathered from this project will be submitted to genealogical libraries so others can access our lineage. If there is enough interest, a book will be made detailing the results of this research. (The picture at the right is my great-grandfather Albea T. Mayeux).
